Insulin-like hypoglycemic and immunological activities in honeybee royal jelly.

چکیده
An aqueous extract of royal jelly from Apis mellifera produced hypoglycemia when injected into larvae of Manduca sexta. Application of specific radioimmunoassay to the partially-purified extract showed that royal jelly contains several insulin-like peptides, the major immunoreactive component of which has an apparent mol. wt similar to that of bovine insulin. These results suggest the existence of a peptide in the honeybee having both biological and structural similarities to vertebrate insulin.

The Therapeutic Effects of Bioactive Compounds in Honeybee Products
Honey, royal jelly, propolis, and bee pollen are potentially beneficial to humans due to their bioactive agents. Different molecules of these honeybee products have been extracted and pharmacologically characterized. Phenolic acid, Major Royal Jelly Proteins (MRJPs), and oligosaccharides are major bioactive substances of these products. Propolis, especially Brazilian type, contains caffeic acid...
متن کاملTherapeutic Properties of Bioactive Compounds from Different Honeybee Products
Honeybees produce honey, royal jelly, propolis, bee venom, bee pollen, and beeswax, which potentially benefit to humans due to the bioactives in them. Clinical standardization of these products is hindered by chemical variability depending on honeybee and botanical sources, but different molecules have been isolated and pharmacologically characterized. Major honey bioactives include phenolics, ...

Objectives: Royal jelly (RJ), a secretion of both the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of nurse workers, is believed to play a central role in honeybee queen development. Important component of royal jelly are proteins which form about 50% of the dry mass of RJ. Major royal jelly proteins (MRJPs) are the dominant proteinaceous component of royal jelly and constitute about 82-90% of total pr...

متن کاملThe effect of eight weeks of high intensity interval training and n-chromosomal royal jelly on G6Pase gene expression in hepatocytes, glucose levels and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic rats
Background: The aim of this study was the interactive effect of High Intensity Exercise Training(HIIT)and n-chromosomal royal jelly on G6Pase gene expression in liver hepatocytes and glucose levels and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic rats. Intense interval training is usually performed with intensities above 90% of the maximum heart rate and short rest periods and a training duration of l...
